Cosmetics, as opposed to plastic surgery, are products used to enhance the human body without altering its appearance. These products can be anything from hair products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair- dryers , hair clippers, flat irons to hand creams , lotions, bath salts, body powder, perfumes, colored eye contacts, skin moisturizers, sunscreen lotions to protect the skin from sun damage, etc.
These products can be purchased at drugstore stores, specialty stores, and retail stores. They can also be purchased on line. They are geared toward the younger female generation.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the safe production of cosmetics in the United States, and supervises alternative methods of testing other than animal testing.
The use of cosmetics has changed throughout history. There have been times, as in the Victorian Era, when face paint was only used by actors and prostitutes. In the present time, the cosmetic industry is a very profitable business.
